The Tech One Program (TOP), a collaborative initiative by Sky Climber Renewables and Vestas Americas, revolutionizes career paths in the wind energy sector. This exclusive program not only fosters local job creation but also provides unparalleled safety and technical training, setting up aspiring wind technicians for success. Through TOP, participants gain hands-on experience at leading wind projects, benefiting from best-in-class training at Vestas’ state-of-the-art Technical Training Center in Portland, Oregon.

TOP offers a robust pathway into the wind energy industry, starting with three weeks of intensive safety and technical training followed by a 9-12 month hands-on project assignment. These assignments are typically located near the candidate’s residence, emphasizing our commitment to supporting local communities and sustainable career development.
Exclusive training and development.
Participants in the TOP program undergo a rigorous training regimen at the Vestas Technical Training Center, equipped with the latest technology and learning resources. Following this, TOP technicians embark on project assignments where they complete a comprehensive Task Based Certification (TBC) program, designed to sharpen their technical skills and ensure they are well-prepared for a successful career as a wind turbine service technician.

What do you want to know?
Are there particular traits that you look for in a candidate?
We’re always looking to find people who are passionate about renewable energy. Being proactive and able to communicate effectively is critical as a Wind Technician.
Being positive, collaborative, and most importantly having a desire to learn and develop is key. We invest in participant training and development, and we’re committed to providing opportunities for upward mobility.
How can I prepare for my interview?
Review the job description and do research on the program and our company. Come ready to share some examples that demonstrate your strengths and any questions you have about the opportunity.
Help us get to know you by explaining how your prior experience and successes have prepared you for the program.
What does the interview process look like?
We review all applications and typically reach out within a few days after submission. If selected to move forward, you’ll be contacted by a recruiter for an initial phone screening. Next steps include a potential video screen and an in-person interview with a site manager and select members of their project team. While visiting with your designated site manager you’ll conduct a physical climb preview.
If you are selected for the role an offer is usually sent within a few days.
Can I apply for multiple open roles at the same time?
Yes, you absolutely can. But, we recommend you consider your skills, qualifications, and interests and limit your application to no more than 3 openings at a time. As a policy, program participants are required to live and work local at their designated wind project (typically within 60 miles), so keep this in mind as your identify your preferred location.

Do I need to relocate to join TOP?
The Tech One Program requires candidates to be located within a 1-hour drive of the job location to ensure timely and efficient commuting. You can easily check if you reside within a manageable distance by visiting our job portal. Once there, click on ‘open positions’ and select the ‘location’ dropdown to filter by city and state, or enter your home zip code to search by distance.
While we prefer candidates who already live near our project sites, we also consider individuals who have plans to or the capacity to relocate on their own initiative. Please be aware that we require in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.

How long is the program and what happens after I graduate from TOP?
TOP participants must successfully complete three weeks of intensive safety & technical training followed by a 9-12 months hands-on project assignment. After completion of the program, TOP candidates are considered for a full-time job as a Technician Level II at their designated wind project.
